Wine Shelf Project

A bonus project I took on was to make our small useless set of shelves that were filler for an odd spacing between the new and old cabinets and make them more wine bottle friendly. The bottles fit perfectly in the space, but nothing holding them in place or centering them.

Plans

The key to this project was to constrain it to the tools I have which inform the sizing. Since my miter saw has a six-inch cutting length, that meant there would be six inches in length. Also, the angle of cut was my miter saws maximum of 45 degrees.

Cutting and Sanding

After all the cuts were made, I used 100 grit sandpaper to clean up the cut marks on the angled cut. Then took to a 200 grit sandpaper to remove any stray fibers on the entire piece.

Final Wine Results

It was a small, but gratifying project. I’ll elect to not paint or finish the wood as they are far enough back and help aim the bottle. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing a heavy piece of maple?

Total cost of the project was roughly $14 for a single piece of 4x1 maple in a four foot length.
