Our humanity seems driven by endless technological innovation. We seem to think that the solution to all of our problems will be born of future technology and do not consider that the source of our problems is also technology. We seem predisposed to a full-throttle consumption and expansion of every technological innovation. Much of our economy is predicated on large bets to create billionaires out of an idea without a market. We believe through sheer force of will that a market will materialize by applying innovation to every possible angle of human existence hoping through chance it sticks.
We do not generally seem wired to stop and consider if an innovation has a positive influence on society. Who would even decide that? Our loss of community and the social balance that provides no longer serves as a correction or resistance to tempering new ideas. It is through technology that we have far less sense of community than ever before. We as a species are bound to our tools. These tools we create change our species. Can we catch up and adapt? Will this adaptation be for the good or the detriment?
