During my time off, I played a few records. One in particular had my brain spinning on memories of being 19 years old. Mazzy Star was a big part of my youth. I collected all of their albums and one song in particular is still a favorite, Blue Light from their album So Tonight That I Might See. I have never been high before, but Blue Light is about how I imagine that must feel.

This song also brought about some memories of living in Las Vegas when I was 19. I would go to school during the day and work at Kinko’s at night. During the summer, Vegas was naturally very hot and by the evening it would only cool off to the mid-90’s Fahrenheit. One thing I did to beat the heat was to drive up to Mt Charleston with a friend, which is about a 40 minute drive from where we worked. During the height of summer, Mt Charleston would be in the upper-70s F and that felt like a wonderful climate break from the unreal heat. We would pull over on the side of the road, get out and lay on the car, look at the stars, and talk about nothing and everything. It was great to be young.
